running out of steam...

For those other GP patients out there; do you ever feel like you’re running out of steam and you can’t keep up?

This has been me for the past few months. At work I walk up to dining hall for lunch with several friends. It has progressively got worse but by the time I get to the dining hall I feel as if I am going to collapse in the parking lot from feeling so weak. I know I’m out of shape – don’t get me wrong here. When I get home from work there is no energy left to go and work out; so yes I’m out of shape.

This week the feeling persisted throughout much of the day – all week so I called my GI doctor; perhaps my nutrition had something to do with it. He had me come down to do some blood work; he said it could be a variety of things.

I met with my nutritionist this past week as well. She wasn’t pleased with my daily calorie intake so she recommended switching over to liquid diet and substituting pureed food (baby food – I’m only touching the fruits) and only eating whole foods (pasta, potatoes and rice) when I feel like it. The whole idea is to obtain better GI absorption since I am having what appears to be a hard time (liquids digest and absorb better). If I continue to drink the Special K Protein drinks to receive any adequate nutritional value, I will need to drink six to eight per day. Currently I’m doing wonderful to drink three and then I usually eat a “GP” sized meal for dinner. So- I’ve got some diet planning and rearranging to do.

As for therapy, it’s HARD!! As human beings we are so complex. My pelvic muscles have come about forty percent. As for my colon muscles, it’s not going to happen. They are too damaged – that was my understanding. My therapist has tried all types of techniques but I just can’t get my muscles to work. We still have some things to work on but it is what it is.

  1. Hey lady! I have been so worried about you! We have so much to catch up on...but, then I saw that you are 'following' my blog so you probably already know a know I started that because of YOU...on the front page it talks about a new friend of mine with GP that inspired me to do it and I'm talking about you! Please, when you feel up to it, and only when you feel up to it, FB message me ok?
    Thinking of you....

  2. Melissa!

I have been such a slacker! Yes, we do need to catch up. I love your blog. The picture on the front is sooo true - that's my life :). I was reading and it made me feel better to see that I am not the only one who misbehaves around food. I hope you are doing well.

    Many GP hugs,

  3. Jennifer, Boy do I understand what you're talking about. I'm so tired all the time. I'm very lucky as I don't go into work until around eleven and work until five. Four days a week. Some days I cry when I get into my car to come home because I'm so tired I don't know if I can make it home.

I do liquids, I mostly drink Odwalla. I mix a half a bottle with non fat vanilla yogurt and a couple ice cubes. It tastes great, and is full of nutrients. I also will have mashed and baked potatos once in a while. I use to drink the Special K or Bottled Instant Breakfast but my stomach won't let me anymore, or the Slimfast.

My bloodwork came back really bad again this time. Big surprise. Was bad in December also. My Vitamin D is down to 14 is suppose to be between 50-100. They don't worry till it hits 30, my was at 17 in Dec. so they ordered in a liquid Vitamin D for me to take with the Calcium that I take. But it still drop down to 14. I guess that explains why my bones hurt all the time.

I'm home today doing my weekly "clean out", oh boy!! I did go and do some of the test that you had done. No surprises on the results. I guess as the Dr. in Iowa told my husband and I....I have these two diseases and this is my life. Just didn't think about the fact I would get worse this quick.

Always glad to read your blog and whats going on with you.

  4. Hey Jeannie!

I am sorry about your energy and bloodwork. I know the feeling, somedays I get in my car and I am like "how in the world am I going to drive thirty minutes home? I am sooo tired." Wow - you deal with two diseases, that's a lot to deal with! It's good to hear from you!

    Many GP hugs,
